Community and County InformationThe North Carolina General Assembly passed a bill Wednesday, July 30th that will require the Justice Academy on St. Paul Road in Edneyville to build any firing range on that facility indoors. Local residents have been working to get an outdoor range stopped at the Justice Academy for more than a year. All the effort and energy local residents have put into fighting an outdoor range has finally paid off. We are so thankful to those that have worked so hard in this fight. This one final decision from the General Assembly which would ban an outdoor range at the Edneyville Campus may be the most important decision in history, for future serenity and quiet enjoyment of the Edneyville Community. Thanks again for those that spent so much time, energy and money in this fight! Our state representatives, Carolyn Justus and Tom Apodoca have worked very hard to get the outdoor range in Edneyville stopped. We are very appreciative of all their hard work. The Edneyville Community Center Organization, ECCO has worked so hard for several years to get the new community park and community center constructed on Chimney Rock Road, across from the Edneyville General Store. The building is very near completion and will soon be available for use. We are so thankful for those that have worked so hard for many years to see this project come to fruition. This park should soon become a central location where local residents can meet, walk, exercise, and enjoy other recreational activities. Local Apple Farmer Kenny Barnwell, son of Apple Country Realty agent, June Barnwell will be traveling to Washington to testify before congress. Kenny will be testifying before Rep. Heath Shuler's subcommittee on Rural Development, Entrepreneurship and Trade. The committee wants to learn about the 2008 Farm Bill and the impact on specialty crops such as local apple operations. The Farm Bill is rewritten every couple of years, and the 2008 Farm Bill was the first version to include provisions for specialty farmers. We wish him all the best and appreciate his time and efforts to assist local farmers. |
