Community and County InformationThe current situation with the firing range at the Campus of the Western North Carolina Justice Academy in Edneyville is still an ongoing issue for local residents.The shooting range the state wants to build at the Justice Academy campus includes plans that call for a pistol range, rifle range, classrooms and SWAT training house. Edneyville residents are concerned about noise and the potential for stray bullets in the well populated area. Carolyn Justus and Tom Apodaca have introduced bills in the General Assembly. The bills have two possible solutions to the situation. They require that any shooting range built at the Justice Academy must be enclosed and directs the Department of Justice and the Wildlife Commission to find a suitable place for a shooting range in the Big Hungry gamelands. Our state representatives, Carolyn Justus and Tom Apodoca continue to work hard to get the outdoor range in Edneyville stopped. We are very appreciative of all their hard work. |
