Community and County InformationSix Edneyville residents met with the County Planning staff on February 10th to discuss zoning recommendations for the county’s ongoing “Small Area Planning” efforts. Planning chief Anthony Star said his department has compiled a list of recommendations aimed at maintaining the rural character and low population density for the community. Topics included building and roof design standards, landscaping, strip malls, parking lot design and many other suggestions for the committee to present in up coming public hearings.Local residents are still working to stop the proposed outdoor firing range at the Justice Academy in Edneyville. Currently the County Commissioners as well as residents working on a solution for this issue have asked the state to give them more time to plan for a safer indoor facility. Discussions continue. The Berkley Baseball Park which was recently donated to the city will be top priority in the city’s upcoming budget with $45,000 budgeted for a new roof, grandstand, restaurant, shelter, parking lot, signage and a 1.2 mile walking trail system. Also, there will be another $60,000 in other park improvements considered over the next five years. The city is also considering building a park on property currently owned by the city located between Old Spartanburg Hwy and Spartanburg Hwy. Proposed for this park would be a soccer field, dog park, restrooms and a walking trail along with a clock and bell tower. Estimated cost for the project is $725,000. |
